Kedarnath Travel Plan For 5 Days:

Our Kedarnath packages, lets you enjoy your pilgrimage comfortably. Below is our 5 days kedarnath itinerary.

Day 1: Haridwar or Rishikesh Arrival

Begin your journey by arriving in Haridwar or Rishikesh, where most travellers start their Kedarnath tour. Settle into your hotel and head for the beautiful evening Ganga Aarti at Har Ki Pauri. This peaceful start gives you the right spiritual mood for your sacred Kedarnath yatra.

Day 2: Drive to Guptkashi or Phata

Start early and drive through the scenic mountain highway through Devprayag, where the Alaknanda and Bhagirathi rivers meet, and later through Rudraprayag. The drive is long but rewarding, with plenty of picturesque bends and small temples along the route. By evening, reach Guptkashi or Phata, check into your hotel, and rest overnight.

Day 3: Journey to Gaurikund & Trek to Kedarnath

At dawn, drive to Sonprayag and then further to Gaurikund by local shared jeep. Gaurikund is the last point accessible by road. From here begins the 16 km trek to the Kedarnath Temple. The trail takes you through forests, waterfalls and high-altitude terrain, offering some unforgettable mountain views overlooking the Mandakini river. After reaching the temple, complete your darshan and spend the night in a guesthouse. This is the core experience of any Kedarnath travel plan.

Day 4: Return to Gaurikund & Drive Back to Haridwar/Rishikesh

Start the morning with prayers at the temple before trekking back down to Gaurikund. Once you arrive, begin the return drive via Rudraprayag towards Haridwar or Rishikesh. Depending on your pace, you can stay the night in Rudraprayag or complete the journey straight to the plains.

Day 5: Departure

After a comfortable rest, depart from Haridwar, Rishikesh, or Dehradun with the memories of your Kedarnath trip. You can also extend your kedarnath trip package to cover more shrines including Badrinath, Gangotri and Yamunotri.

Best Time to Visit Kedarnath

For a smooth kedarnath trip, April to June offers the best experience as this time the temple reopens and the weather remains pleasant for trekking. September and October are other excellent months with clear skies and lesser crowds after the monsoon.

How to Reach Kedarnath

By Air: The easiest way is to fly into Dehradun’s Jolly Grant Airport, which is the closest major airport to Kedarnath. From here, the road journey to Gaurikund—the base point for Kedarnath—takes around eight to ten hours through beautiful hill roads.

By Train: If you prefer trains, you can get down at Rishikesh or Haridwar. Both stations have good connectivity toward Gaurikund and Phata through shared jeeps, private taxis, and Uttarakhand roadways buses.

By Road: Many pilgrims begin their Kedarnath trip from Haridwar or Rishikesh by hiring a private cab or taking a direct bus toward Gaurikund. This is the last point where vehicles can go, and it’s also close to the Phata helipad for helicopter services.

Trek vs Helicopter: From Gaurikund, the traditional trek to Kedarnath is about 14–16 km uphill. You’ll find ponies and palkis along the route if needed. If you want to skip the trek, you can book a helicopter from Phata to Kedarnath, which takes roughly 20 minutes and requires advance booking during peak season.

Combo Tours: Travellers often combine Kedarnath and Badrinath in one journey. The usual route is to visit Kedarnath first and then continue toward Badrinath via Joshimath, which keeps the yatra smooth and well-structured.

FAQs About Kedarnath Tours:

You can register on the official Uttarakhand Tourism website. The process is simple: fill in your personal details, select your travel date, upload ID proof and download your Yatra pass. Carry a digital or printed copy during your trip, as it’s checked at multiple points during Kedarnath trip.

The season from May to June is considered the best for Kedarnath. July to September is the monsoon season, making mountainous areas prone to landslides, and October to April is the winter season with Very low temperatures.

The Yatra usually begins in late April or early May when the temple reopens after winter. Pilgrims can visit until early November. The exact opening date is announced each year on Maha Shivratri.

A basic trip from Haridwar or Rishikesh usually starts from ₹13,000 to 18000 per person covering transport, stay and food. The cost increases if you use ponies, palanquins or helicopter services. Staying in better hotels and hiring a private cab instead of shared transport also adds to the price.

Travel begins from Haridwar or Rishikesh by road. From there you drive to Gaurikund, which is the last motorable point. The Yatra ends at the Kedarnath Temple after completing the 16-kilometre trek.

The best time to visit is from May to June and again from September to October. These months offer stable weather, clear views and safer trekking conditions. The monsoon period is usually avoided due to landslide risk.

Kedarnath does not have a formal VIP Darshan system like some city temples. Pilgrims follow the regular queue. Your travel can be made smoother by pre-booking helicopter services, better accommodation or guided packages, but temple entry remains the same for all.

Most travellers start from Haridwar or Rishikesh, drive through Rudraprayag and Guptkashi, and reach Gaurikund. From Gaurikund, the pilgrimage continues on foot to the temple. Those who prefer a quicker option take a helicopter from helipads such as Phata, Guptkashi or Sirsi.
