Mumbai To Kedarnath Tour Plan (Itinerary)
Below is a 4 day itinerary to Kedarnath from Mumbai, starting and ending at Haridwar.
Day 1: Arrival in Haridwar – Drive to Guptkashi (Approx. 8 hours drive)
Your Mumbai to Kedarnath trip begins as you arrive in Haridwar on Day 1. Our driver will receive you at the Haridwar railway station or dehradun airport, and you’ll head straight to Guptkashi En route, you may stop at Devprayag to see the holy confluence of rivers or at Rudraprayag, another sacred confluence point. As you drive alongside the Mandakini River (which originates from Kedarnath), breathe in the fresh mountain air while enjoying the panoramic views. By late afternoon or evening, arrive in Guptkashi, a religious town known for the ancient Ardhnarishwar Temple. If time permits, visit this temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. Check in at your hotel in Guptkashi, relax and enjoy a delicious dinner. Overnight stay in Guptkashi (hotel).
Day 2: Guptkashi – Sonprayag – Gaurikund – Trek/Helicopter to Kedarnath
Rise early (by 4-5 AM). And then, a short drive (30 km) brings you to Sonprayag. Due to route regulations, we switch to a local taxi for the 5 km from Sonprayag to Gaurikund (the road-end point). At Gaurikund, you will begin the trek to Kedarnath, which is about 16-17 km uphill. Most pilgrims trek on foot, which takes 6-8 hours depending on fitness. Along the paved path, you’ll find small dhabas (tea shops) to rest. The trail is steep in parts but filled with spiritual chants and stunning views – as you climb, clouds and mist swirl around the peaks and eventually reveal the picturesque Kedarnath valley.
Alternate Options: If you prefer not to trek the entire way, ponies/mules or palki/doli are available at Gaurikund for hire on the spot. Additionally, helicopter services are also available and can be booked from helipads at Phata, Sirsi or Guptkashi to Kedarnath (need 2-3 month advance booking). Tickets can cost around ₹7,000–₹9,500 per person (round trip) and are subject to availability.
Upon reaching Kedarnath, feel the spiritual energy of this holy place. Visit Kedarnath Temple, an ancient stone temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. If you arrive by afternoon, you can attend the evening Aarti ceremony – a truly soul-satisfying experience as bells ring and hymns echo in the valley. After darshan (prayers) at the Kedarnath shrine, check in to your lodge/guesthouse near the temple. You can also walk to Adi Shankaracharya’s Samadhi behind the temple, a monument to the great sage who re-established this shrine. Dinner and overnight stay in Kedarnath (guesthouse/camp).
Day 3: Kedarnath – Trek down to Gaurikund – Guptkashi
Wake up with a mesmerizing view of snow-clad peaks and, if you wish, attend the pre-dawn “Abhishek” pooja at 4 AM inside Kedarnath temple. After a morning tea and enjoying the serene sunrise over Kedarnath, prepare to trek back. Start the return trek around 6–7 AM, descending the same 16 km path to Gaurikund. Going down is easier, taking about 5-6 hours. Take breaks along the way to photograph the breathtaking scenery you might have missed on the climb. Reach Gaurikund by early afternoon and reunite with your driver at Sonprayag (our vehicle will be waiting in the parking lot). From Sonprayag, drive back to Guptkashi. The rest of the day is free to relax after the hard trek. You can share your experience with fellow travelers or explore Guptkashi town in the evening. Dinner at the hotel and overnight in Guptkashi.
Day 4: Drive From Guptkashi To Rishikesh – Haridwar (Return Journey)
After breakfast, check out from the hotel for the return drive. We proceed downhill towards Rishikesh/Haridwar. Rishikesh, the yoga capital of the world, lies on the way and we aim to reach there by early afternoon. If time permits, enjoy a short sightseeing tour in Rishikesh: visit the famous Laxman Jhula and Ram Jhula suspension bridges, and experience the spiritual vibe of the Ganga Aarti at Triveni Ghat (if your schedule allows in the evening). By late evening, we drop you off at Haridwar, concluding your divine kedarnath trip. Afterwards, you can continue your onward journey or return to Mumbai as per your plans.
